One Halloween is up for pre-order today!

It’s a new 3-song EP from me, and pre-orders are open now on Amazon Music. On October 9 it goes everywhere else too: Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, and pretty much anywhere you stream.

This EP was a lot of fun for me to write and produce. The idea was to capture the feel of the whole day, from waking up to going to bed. I didn’t set out to write one kind of song. I wanted to catch what Halloween felt like for me as a kid, and that day never held one mood for long. Three songs, three different genres, and they don’t match on purpose.

Wait Until Dark starts on Halloween morning. You’re already dressed and ready to go, but Mom has other plans. School first. You have to wait until dark. So you sit there all day watching the clock, buzzing with anticipation, and something else seems to be watching you too: a quiet presence at the edges of the day, patient, waiting right along with you. Finally you’re home, and Mom says it again: wait until dark. Then dinner comes, and the mood shifts. Something’s out there now, watching your family eat, calling you to come out and play.

Trick or Treat is the night itself, and it’s pure adrenaline. Finally, it’s dark. The costume is on, the bag is empty, and you hit the street running. Door to door, laughing your head off, sprinting to the next porch before the last one even closes, with the sugar already kicking in. Behind those doors the grown-ups are throwing their own party, popping up to drop candy in your bag before diving back into the dancing, but you barely notice. You’re too busy having the time of your life. It’s a new wave, surf-inspired rush of a song built for exactly that kind of chaos, the good kind, no time to catch your breath. And the lyrics could not be simpler. Just shout it: Trick or Treat!!!! Fair warning, you will be singing it.

Beware the Great Pumpkin closes out the day. It’s what happens after the porch lights go dark. The kids are in bed, sugar crashed, and the night is not quite finished with the day yet. This is the abstract, unsettled side of Halloween, the part nobody sees because they are supposed to be asleep for it. Something is out there. And if you happen to catch a glimpse of the Great Pumpkin himself, consider yourself warned. The dark comes out to play after that, and it just might get you.

I also made some fun little videos for each of these songs myself, just to give you something to look at while you’re listening, and I’ll be rolling them out over the next week or so. You can watch the first one, Wait Until Dark, right here:

I hope you all have as much fun listening to this project as I did while making it.

Jeff
